For I was hungry and you gave me food

-Matthew 25:35a

On Saturday, October 24th youth from Blythwood Road Baptist, Eglinton St. George and Glenview Presbyterian Church went Trick or Treating. While some neighbours opened their opened their doors with a look of confusion on their faces letting us know that we were a week early for Halloween, most were expecting us.

We had sent flyers out a week before letting neighbours know that we would be running “Trick or Eat”. Almost 30 teens and pre-teens participated in the event.  It was a wet and rainy night but that didn’t discourage them. The response from our neighbours was overwhelmingly positive as we collected dozens of bags of non-perishable food from houses in the Yonge & Lawrence area.

This is the fifth year Blythwood has collected donations for the North York Harvest Food Bank (NYHFB). NYHFB is the primary food bank for families living in Toronto. In 2014 they distributed more than 2 million pounds of food to thousands of families in Toronto. Below are some stats taken from their recent newsletter.

To learn more about the NYHFB you can visit their website at www.northyorkharvest.com. Their Fall food drive runs until November 6th and we will be collecting donations at church this Sunday.

It was great to see our young people getting excited about helping others. It goes to show that no matter what age you are, you can make a difference. The time and effort they gave to “Trick or Eat” will ensure that families in need have enough food this winter.

Let’s keep the NYHFB in our prayers as they continue to provide food to Toronto families.
